Juodkrante

The second biggest settlement of Neringa located on the coast of the Curonian Lagoon between high parabolic dunes. When navigating in the Lagoon, this location looks quite dark; therefore, it is considered that the name of Juodkrante originated from two words: „black coast". In written sources, Juodkrante was first mentioned in 1429.

Juodkrantë is a fascinating settlement with a perfectly arranged and adorned promenade by the Curonian Lagoon, the reconstructed stylish old villas and fishermen's houses abounding in flower gardens and green orchards.

There are three places in Juodkrante where leisure and passenger boats can moor.

The passenger pier 50 m long is located S near the fairwater as well as pier near the rest house „Azuolynas". The length of passenger quay is 50 meters.

The Amber Bay (lith. Gintaro álanka) is located in the northern part of the settlement. There are 10 berths for boats with the length up to 10 m. The abandoned pier for fishermen‘s boats is also situated in the bay. It is possible to stay in the bay. Fishermen‘s boats stay in the bays, fishermen‘s warehouses are located near the shore.

The Amber Bay is well protected against all winds; other two harbours are protected only against W and S winds.

The depths along the quays reach 2.5 - 3 meters. The depth of the fairwater leading to the quay is up to 3 meters; however the Juodkrante harbour possibilities are limited due to the depths of the fairwater Klaipeda - Juodkrante where the warranted depth is 1.5 meters. There are 10 berths for the boats with the length up to 10 meters in each harbour.

The Amber Bay: The buoy No. 6 has to be left at the left side and from the fairwater one has to proceed perpendicularly to the shoer, the course is 270°. The shallowest place - isthmus. The depth of the entrance channel 1.5 meters, the depths near the quays - 1.5 meters. The passenger pier is located at the western edge of the fairwater.

The harbour at "Azuolynas" rest house is located S of the passenger pier and N of church at "Azuolynas" rest house built near the shore. The up side down L-shaped pier is constructed almost perpendicularly offshore. Approaching the pier one should act carefully as there are several shallow places up to 1.5 meters deep.
